Direct-reading remote water meters and detachable Woltman-type water meters differ in application scenarios, functional characteristics, technical parameters, and other aspects. Direct-reading remote water meters are suitable for water metering in civil buildings, emphasizing remote data transmission and intelligent meter reading management; detachable Woltman-type water meters are mostly used in industrial and large-diameter pipeline scenarios, focusing on convenient maintenance and high-precision metering.

1. Differences in application scenarios
– Direct-reading remote water meter: Primarily used to measure the total volume of drinking cold water flowing in one direction through water pipelines, it is suitable for scenarios requiring remote meter reading, such as civil buildings and residential areas, fulfilling the need for water metering management among residents. For instance, the LXZ-15~40 direct-reading remote water meter produced by NOIKE is specifically designed for such scenarios.
– Detachable Woltman-type water meter: used to measure the volume of cold (hot) water flowing through a pipeline, it can be applied to households, apartments, and is more commonly used in industrial fields and for water flow measurement in large-diameter pipelines. Some industrial plants, for example, choose this type of water meter for water metering.
2. Functional characteristic differences
– Direct-reading remote water meter: Equipped with remote direct-reading capabilities, it achieves long-distance data transmission through M-BUS/RS485 bus communication. Utilizing photoelectric direct-reading technology, it directly determines the position of the water meter’s character wheel, ensuring consistency between mechanical and electronic readings and eliminating reading errors. It also features low-power design, correlative reading technology, automated meter reading management, and other functions. For example, some products consume no power in the non-meter reading state, provide transient power supply during meter reading, and ensure accurate readings through optical correlation.
– Detachable Woltman water meter: It adopts a detachable component structure, allowing the counter to be removed for inspection and maintenance without having to dismantle the meter from the pipeline. It features a dry dial, magnetic drive, sensitive action, and minimal pressure loss. The vacuum-sealed counter prevents fogging of the dial, ensuring clear readings over the long term. Some products can also be equipped with pulse output, RS 485 Modbus, wired remote, and other functions.
3. Different technical parameters
– Direct-reading remote water meter: Taking NOIKE products as an example, the nominal diameter is generally between DN15 and DN40, with measurement ranges including R80, R100, R125, and R160. Parameters such as overload flow rate Q₄ and normal flow rate Q₃ vary depending on the diameter and measurement range. The indication error is ±2% in the high range (Q₂≤Q≤Q₄) and ±5% in the low range (Q₁≤Q<Q₂) within a water temperature range of 0.1℃ to 30℃. When the water temperature exceeds 30℃, the maximum allowable error in the high range is ±3%, while it remains ±5% in the low range.
– Detachable Woltman water meter: It has a wide range of nominal diameters, such as DN50 – DN600 for some products. The accuracy level ranges from R = 50 to Class B. The maximum allowable error is ±5% in the low range (from the minimum flow rate Qmin to the dividing flow rate Qt), and ±2% in the high range (from the dividing flow rate Qt to the common flow rate Qs) (±3% in the high range for hot water meters).
